Online gaming: a different experience

For many decades, people that wanted to play with someone else had to organize reunions depending on everybody's schedule. Today, just entering the internet and look for an available user is enough to start playing.

Although everything started on the PC two decades ago, the former generation experienced the online gaming, being the Xbox the console with the better service, it was that good that the current Xbox Live is very similar to the original one launched in 2002.

As Sony experimented with the online game during the days of the PlayStation 2, the PlayStation 3 features a robust system called PlayStation Network that, besides allowing the users to participate in online challenges, it gives the player the opportunity to have his own virtual space at PlayStation Home. The best of PSN (by its English acronym,) is that it is a free service.

In order to convince people to hook their console to the internet, companies like Ubisoft created levels that can only be completed playing with someone else online. Specifically, Splinter Cell: Conviction has a scene that works as a prequel and reveals history details that would remain unnoticed unless the online mode is used.

With over 50% of players online the trend is clear: online mode will continue as a fundamental part of this generation and the next one.
